St. Michael’s Hospice Charity Walks/Runs the 5km Fun Run at the 20th Logicom Cyprus Marathon

Join the fun and be part of the massive St. Michael’s Hospice Charity team for the 5km Fun Walk/Run at the exciting 20th Logicom Cyprus Marathon organised on 4th March 2018 in Paphos. St. Michael’s Hospice in co-operation with the Logicom Cyprus Marathon have prepared a runner or walker package which can be purchased from the 5 Charity Shops (Polis, Geroskipou, Pegia, Kato Paphos and Polemi) or via e-mail at chairmansmhc@aol.com by the end of December. The team has raised over 100 participants up to now and you could be part of something inspiring!

Commenting on this, Andrew Lauder, the SMHC Chairman said: “There are two main reasons why I believe that we have had such good support for walkers and from sponsors.

Firstly, people genuinely wish to help contribute towards the €250,000 running costs of the Archangel Michael Hospice in Paphos. Opened only two years ago, it is a state of the art facility, with 9 suites, each having a beautiful balcony with sea views and one of them is specifically dedicated to children. There is a cafe, great nursing staff and volunteers and a lovely Garden of Memories. We offer palliative and respite care for those nearing the end of their lives completely free of charge.

Secondly, the 20th Logicom Cyprus Marathon has been extremely well organised by Stavros and George, with scenic courses, high-quality medals for all competitors, not just the winners, plenty of choice from the full marathon to 5k Fun Run and great back up from marshals, police and ambulance.

It is bound to be a challenging and exciting day for the 2,500 international entrants –  and for those of us doing the 5k Fun Walk, it will be pure fun, which should raise considerable funds for the St. Michael’s Hospice Charity. Well done to the organisers for putting on, yet again, such a splendid event.”

The funding comes via the 5 shops, the registered charity (no. 3270) and the UK based charity which also qualifies for UK gift aid. The many fundraising events organized from the people of our community is also an important source of income as well as the friends and sponsors from Rock FM, Peter Morton Removals, G&P tiles and bathrooms, Pro Act, Centroptical, MyHair Studio and over 100 supporters that help contribute to the running costs.

The St. Michael’s Hospice would like to wish everyone Happy Christmas and New Year and a big thank you for the wonderful support in 2017.
